Today I’m working a FAQ page for the Sahara Lounge website. I often see accordions used for FAQ pages even with their inherent usability concerns. Specifically, accordions elements show and hide content which causes the webpage layout to shift, and thus confuses users.
Researching for answers, I consulted the Nielsen Norman Group which never fails to provide good insights to UX issues. NN/g has a great article detailing use cases of accordions for FAQ pages which also points out how FAQ pages enhance overall content strategy. In the end, I wound up choosing an accordion layout for the Sahara Lounge FAQ page to help with scanning the large number of questions and aid readability on mobile devices.
